7 July 2023: ASQA Grants Extended Transition Period for Interpreting Qualifications PSP50916 and PSP60916

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has taken a significant step to support aspiring interpreters in Australia. ASQA has officially approved extended transition periods for two vital interpreting qualifications – PSP50916 Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE-English) and PSP60916 Advanced Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE-English).

ASQA assesses requests for extended transition periods under the Guidance for Providers – Learner Transition. The authority exercises its discretion to approve such requests when it is evident that a specific cohort of learners would face a genuine disadvantage without the extension, even if it surpasses the transition periods specified in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015‘s clauses 1.26 (a), (b), and (c).

With the extended transition period, your learners have more time and flexibility to pursue their dreams of becoming professional interpreters without disadvantages. ASQA’s careful consideration of specific circumstances ensures that the transition to the replacement qualifications will be seamless, upholding the highest education and training standards.

PSP50916 and PSP60916 have been superseded by PSP50922 and PSP60922, respectively.

New Transition End Date: 31 July 2024 – Enrolments Open!

The new training, assessment, and certification issuance period for PSP50916 and PSP60916 will extend until 31 July 2024. This extension enables new enrolments and commencements in these qualifications beyond 19 November 2023. Remember, all students must complete the qualification or transfer to the replacement program before the new transition ends.

ASQA’s Collaborative Approach

ASQA’s decision to grant the extended transition period resulted from fruitful collaboration with the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and the Training Accreditation Council Western Australia (TAC WA). The consultation gathered valuable insights and perspectives, ensuring a well-informed and beneficial outcome for all stakeholders involved.

Unlocking New Opportunities for Your RTO and Learners

The extended transition period enables training providers like you to welcome diverse learners, ensuring that accessibility to quality education is no longer a barrier. It also opens enhanced learning opportunities for your students, allowing them to achieve qualifications and embark on a rewarding career path.
